The new “Behind the Mask” exhibit at the Bible Lands Museum reveals new perspectives on creations past and present
While we sometimes think of masks as hiding true identity, the revelatory “Behind the Mask” exhibit reverses that presumption. This diverse collection of masks curated from private collections throughout Israel gives visitors a glimpse into history, life and culture from around the world.
New artistic narratives
The artifacts tell stories of the makers and wearers and the periods in which they were fashioned, seeking to put a true face on times and places of the past and present.
The display, running now through September 2016, is part of the museum’s Community Curates initiative, where the public is invited to reach into their artistic treasure troves to help present new and rare insights into inspirational themes.
