After years of planning, the Custody of the Holy Land (Custodia Terrae Sanctae) has inaugurated a new museum dedicated to spotlighting the roots and historical presence of Christianity in the Holy Land.
Commemorating the Passion of Christ
Opened in recent months within the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City at the Monastery of the Flagellation was the first part of the Terra Sancta Museum, Via Dolorosa. The facility is an immersive multimedia installation at the popular start on the Way of the Cross (Station II).
Lights, sounds and sensations
Through a multi-sensory experience, the museum highlights the order’s archaeological and artistic collections from the Herodian and Roman period in God’s chosen land. Focusing on the sacred sites, the installation uses a suspended map to present the story of historic happenings in Jerusalem. Recreating the sights and sounds of the ancient city and its pilgrims, Via Delarosa recreates the worship of the Way of the Cross.
Additional museum installations will be introduced in 2017.
