Interfaith mission builds unity

ByKenes Christian Tours April 20, 2016

A group of enthusiastic North Carolina travelers recently returned from an interfaith study mission to Israel. The trip was designed by Kenes Tours for the Greensboro Community Foundation – to build bridges of respect and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds.

Promoting bonding and personal growth

Greensboro Interfaith Mission-300x225Each day solidified new-found friendships while exploring meaningful themes: Stepping Back in Time covered the Roman period, Christianity and Islam; and Roots and Remembrance addressed a range of topics from Jewish-Arab co-existence to the Holocaust.

In Zionism up to the Present, the group got to know the country that is both 70 years young and timeless – through its vibrant culture, art of all genres and success as a start-up powerhouse.

Throughout the mission, the traveling team jointly discovered the places where diverse people meet and the complexities that arise, such as in Haifa, where residents of five different religions live side by side in harmony and mutual respect; and the Old City, where people of many backgrounds take their share in the four quarters of the walled fortress.

Drawing energy for unity

The group had time to reflect, pray, sing and socialize. Freedom, democracy, tolerance, social responsibility and peace were underlying themes and the subjects of intimate discussions with Israeli experts from across the spectrum of society.
