Creative expression: the heart of Jerusalem’s summer scene

ByKenes Christian Tours June 19, 2016

Every visit to Jerusalem is a new revelation, and this summer, for the 40th year, the climax is the International Jerusalem Arts and Crafts Fair.

Revered as a highlight of the season, the fair presents hundreds of artists in the romantic ambiance of the ancient Sultan’s Pool. This scenic area at the foot of the Old City is adjacent to the year-round home of Jerusalem Artists’ Colony.

Taking place from August 15th through the 29th, the festival underscores the talent and variety of inspirational Israeli artisans.

Handiwork features a myriad of works, including paintings, ceramics, sculptures, jewelry, prints, metalworking, weaving, textiles, toys, art of mixed media and woodwork.

Visitors can watch masterpieces unfold in live artist demonstrations in stations throughout the exhibitions. The international pavilion showcases international craftspeople from the four corners of the earth.

The event is accented by nightly concerts, theatrical performances and dance shows of all types. On the menu in the festival courtyard, perhaps after an eclectic workshop, yoga lesson or storytelling, is a whole host of authentic fare from the kitchens of the world.
